Forest School
St. Monica’s Catholic Primary School is fortunate to have some beautiful outdoor areas that provide a great setting for Forest School activities and for our children to explore. Our objective is to encourage children to develop their confidence, independence and social skills within a friendly, supportive group. Outdoor learning enables children to access the natural world on a personal level. We hope to inspire our learners to develop a love of nature and to respect the environment around them. Time outdoors gives us opportunities to reflect on the meaning of our experiences and to learn from our reflections.
Our Forest School aims:
1. Participants are encouraged to engage in activities at a level that is suitable to their personal needs.
2. We strive to offer opportunities that enable children to explore their surroundings and make their own investigations.
3. Outdoor activities are accessible to support the well-being of participants.
4. Independence is encouraged. We aim to promote self-esteem and confidence.
5. Activities are facilitated in a natural environment on the school site. We hope to nurture a respect for nature in our learners.
6. A range of activities are available which offer opportunities for learners to succeed.
7. Self-led discovery is an important part of forest school and we actively support this.
8. The promotion of conservation and sustainability are positively encouraged.
9. The Forest School Leader, in their role as a facilitator, will observe and reflect on sessions and aim to offer opportunities that reflect participants' interests, needs and backgrounds.
